Apple Targeting One Million iPhones by September 30th

270,000 iPhones were sold in two days at the end of June. According to Apple's leader “iPhone is off to a great start—we hope to sell our one-millionth iPhone by the end of its first full quarter of sales—and our new product pipeline is very strong,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

How Many Women Bought iPhone?

In a previous column I estimated women represented two percent of 500,000 first weekend iPhone buyers. Now with real numbers released by Apple yesterday that figure is adjusted to two percent of 270,000.

Factoring women purchased two percent of all units sold during opening weekend, we have 5,400. This is a very conservative number based on survey results from Harris Interactive indicating two percent of women were likely to purchase the device. The actual number could be as high as 13 percent, or 35,100 units.

Independent Security Evaluators Breach iPhone Security

Independent Security Evaluators claims they have breached the Apple iPhone security in a New York Times article linked from their website. ISE's mission is to "provide the outside technical resources companies need to control their technology risk."

Is this a calling card for Apple to hire ISE or a major security risk for iPhone users? Or maybe just a clever way to promote an event, such as the Blackhat convention in Vegas August 2.
